Your kindness empowers ARC to protect and nurture animals in need

About Animal Rescue and Care

ARC was founded in 2001 and the charity's main priority is to rescue, foster and rehome animals in Richmond surrounding areas. The charity mainly works with cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, but also with dogs and small furries such as hamsters and chinchillas.

ARC has helped over 10,000 animals in need, and during the last financial year, at any one time, ARC had an average of over 100 animals in foster care across the charity's network, taking in 517 animals and rehoming a total of 518. ARC provided low-cost/free neutering for stray and pet cats in low-income households in the local area as well as low-cost/free neutering of bull dog breeds to help keep these dogs in their homes. ARC's adoption fees typically only cover 50% of the cost associated with rehoming the animal, and vet fees alone cost £5000 a month, and are continuing to rise.

ARC, in common with many other animal charities, is facing a challenging financial situation. Almost half of the rabbit rescue and adoption centres have closed across the UK, due to financial difficulties, increasing pressure and demand for the charity's services.

Recent rescue of 65 rabbits

ARC was recently involved in their biggest rescue of 65 rabbits. An owner bought a mis-sexed pair that bred over 18 months. The rabbits created a complex burrowing system, and volunteers worked hard to rescue the rabbits over 10 days. The rabbits are safe, and have been vaccinated and neutered by the charity, and are currently being rehomed. The rescue highlights how quickly rabbits can breed, and the importance of neutering rabbits.

Every donation counts

ARC relies entirely on volunteers, donations and fundraising, alongside the support and generosity of members of the public. Every pound that is donated or raised through fundraising, goes straight to helping animals in need. Please help us to continue to provide advice, raise public awareness about animal welfare, including the importance of animal neutering to stop the cycle of unwanted pets.
